Rex Education holds Annual Educators Congress AECON 2023

The Samahang Pisika ng Pilipinas (SPP) co-organized the Basic Education Science breakout session of Rex Education’s 2023 Annual Educators’ Congress (AECON 2023) with the theme, Learning Recovery to Learning Resilience, held last 26–27 January 2023. The breakout session, entitled Physics Next: Topics, Strategies, and Philippine Context, consisted of a mini-series covering a wide range of insightful ideas for teaching Physics. Jose Perico Esguerra of the University of the Philippines Diliman, discussed Topics at the Interface of Space, Astronomy, and Physics. He showed how space, astronomy, and physics expand to today’s relatable topics.

In the second talk Rhenish Simon of De La Salle University discussed Flipping the Classroom, where he shared how to flip classroom activities in a time of reduced in-person class interactions.

In the last talk, Giovanni Malapit of the University of the Philippines Baguio talked about Localizing Physics, where he presented his experience using local languages in teaching Physics.

AECON 2023 promotes the Department of Education’s Basic Education Development Plan (BEDP) 2030 centered on the following priority development areas of this year’s event:
• Pivoting to quality, ensuring that all learners attain learning standards in every key stage in the K to 12 program;
• Empowering learners to be resilient and to acquire life skills; and 
• Strengthening the promotion of the overall well-being of learners in a positive learning environment where learners exercise their rights and experience joy while being aware of their responsibilities as individuals and as members of society.

The breakout session was hosted by SPP National Council members Johnrob Bantang, Lean Dasallas, and Ranzivelle Marianne Roxas-Villanueva. Rex Education provided free registration to 300 SPP members.
