Samahang Pisika ng Pilipinas (SPP) and Bicol University (BU) representatives met last 23 January 2020 at the Ateneo de Manila University to develop the framework for an outreach workshop for STEM teachers in the Bicol region.
The planned 2020 SPP-BU Physics Education Outreach Workshop (PEOW) is scheduled for 1-2 June 2020 at the Bicol University as a pre-conference event for the 38th SPP Physics Conference.
In the first half of the meeting, ideas were shared on recent trends in physics education research, features of a desirable physics education workshop, and expectations of the workshop participants. During the second half of the meeting, these ideas served as input in laying down specific plans for the workshop. The PEOW aims to promote knowledge and tools that will empower STEM teachers hailing from the Bicol region. Finally, follow-up meetings with facilitators were scheduled to map the activities for the workshop and also for a physics education session during the main Physics Conference.
