Officer Duties
The Constitution and By-Laws of the Samahang Pisika ng Pilipinas (SPP) identifies the following Duties of the National Officers and Councilors.
Summary:
- The elected 2nd VP will eventually become the President. The person elected as 2nd VP this year will serve the Samahan for a total of three (3) years culminating with his/her Presidency in the third year of his/her three-year stint:
2nd VP (year 1) → 1st VP (year 2) → President (year 3) - The Secretary-General will serve a term of two (2) years. No after-term re-election.
- The Treasurer will serve a term of two (2) years. No after-term re-election.
- Councilors serve a term of two (2) years.
President
The President serves for a term of one (1) year with the following duties:
- To convoke and preside at the National Physics Congress and at the meetings of the National Council;
- To act as the official spokesperson and representative of the Samahan in its external affairs;
- To deliver an address before the Samahan at the close of the National Physics Congress which elected him/her;
- To submit an annual report to the National Physics Congress on the activities of the Samahan during the preceding year;
- To supervise and coordinate the work of the Samahan and Special Committees; and
- To exercise such other duties, responsibilities, and powers as may be assigned to him/her by the National Council.
1st Vice President
The 1st Vice President serves for a term before automatically becoming the President upon vacancy of the latter. Duties:
- To assume the duties and responsibilities of the President in case of the latter’s temporary absence or incapacity;
- To become President in case of a vacancy in the Presidency and serve as such until the next general election of the Officers by the National Physics Congress;
- To serve as Chairman of one of the Standing committees, upon his/her appointment as such by the National Council; and
- To exercise such other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned to him/her by the National Council.
2nd Vice President
The 2nd Vice President serves for a term before automatically becoming the 1st Vice President upon vacancy of the latter. Duties:
- To become the First Vice-President in case of a vacancy in the First Vice-Presidency and serve as such until the next general election of officers by the National Physics Congress;
- To become the President in case of vacancies in both the Presidency and First Vice-Presidency and serve as such until the next general election of officers by the National Physics Congress;
- To serve as chairperson of one of the Standing Committees upon his/her appointment as such by the National Council;
- To exercise such other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned to him/her by the National Council.
Secretary-General
The Secretary-General serves for a term of two (2) years. The Constitution does not allow successive terms for the Secretary-General. Duties:
- To keep a record of the proceedings of the National Physics Congress and the National Council;
- To serve as the Chief Historian and the Archivist of the Samahan;
- To organize and head the National Secretariat of the Samahan;
- To submit an annual report to the National Physics Congress on the organizational status and problems of the Samahan and on the work of the National Secretariat.
Treasurer
The Treasurer serves for a term of two (2) years. The Constitution does not allow successive terms for the Treasurer. Duties:
- To be responsible for the collection of membership dues and other assessments as well as for the safekeeping of the Samahan’s funds;
- To keep an accurate record of the Samahan’s incomes and disbursements and submit the Samahan’s accounts to annual audit by an Auditor to be appointed by the National Council;
- To submit an annual financial report to the National Physics Congress and keep the National informed about the financial status, problems, and needs of the Samahan; and
- To organize and chair the Finance Committee, which shall assist him in his/her work.
Councilors
A councilor may be assigned by the Council to chair any one of the standing committees or such committee created by the National Council, except those committees whose chair is ex officio of other Council members.
